Molema is approximately 550km from both Johannesburg and Gaborone, with drive times of around 6 hours from both capitals. The camp is approximately 4 hour’s drive from the northern gates of the Kruger National Park.
Driving from Johannesburg guests should follow the N1 to Polokwane then the R521 to Alldays. From Alldays to Tuli Wilderness, either Platjan Border or Pont Drift Border can be chosen as entry points (please note that Pont Drift is often not crossable by vehicle during the wet season and a 4×4 is required to reach us via Pont Drift regardless of time of year)
Coming from Polokwane, arrive at the T-junction in Alldays and turn right and immediately left onto the R572 to Swartwater. Approximately 4kms outside of Alldays, turn right onto a gravel road – signposted “Platjan”. You’ve seen the last of tarred roads now. It is approximately 35kms to Platjan border post. There is a low level bridge crossing the Limpopo River at this border post. After passing through the border entry, you will arrive at a T-junction, approximately 8kms from Platjan, turn right here and it is 22km to the Molema Bush Camp entrance. On the way to us, you will cross straight over a T-junction (which is the tar road heading to Bobonong). At the Molema signboard on the right, turn in and follow the small road for 4kms until you reach the camp.
Coming from Polokwane, arrive at the T-junction in Alldays and turn right to Pont Drift. It is 59kms to Pont Drift. Once you’ve completed the border formalities in SA you’ve seen the last of tar roads. Cross the Limpopo River bed – there is neither a bridge nor a low level crossing. Approximately 1km outside Pont Drift border post, turn left. It’s 34km to the Molema Bush Camp entrance. Travelling on this road, you will cross a veterinary fence where you’ll be required to put the soles of your shoes in an anti-pest watery solution (You are not required to pay anything at this gate). Continue on to a four-way stop and go straight – do not turn left or right. You will cross the Motloutse River bed – there is also no bridge or low-level crossing – continue travelling and pass through the cattle-grids at Talana Farms. 5kms past the farms you’ll find the entrance to Molema Bush Camp on the left. Turn in here and follow the small road for another 4kms until you reach the camp.
Driving from Gaborone / Maun, guests should head to Selebi-Phikwe and then on to Bobonong. Keep to the main road in Bobonong until you reach a roundabout, where you turn right. Follow this road to a T-junction where you turn right at a signboard reading “Mathathane” Continue on this road and turn left at signboards reading ‘Thune Dam” and ‘Mashatu 100km’. Follow this road passing through Molalatau en route and continuing straight past the turnings for Mathathane and Mothlabaneng. After 62km you will reach a T-junction, where you turn left onto a dirt road signed to Lentswe-le-Moriti. After about 5.6km, you will see the Molema signboard on your right, turn in here and Molema Bush Camp is 4km down the dirt track from this point.
Please note that the Limpopo River crossing at Platjan is on a 3m wide causeway. If the Limpopo River is flowing over the bridge, it cannot be crossed and the alternative then (if coming from South Africa) is to drive down to Martin’s Drift which is approximately three hour’s drive from Molema.
There is a charge of around P 130.00 per vehicle for entry into Botswana – please ensure that you have all of the necessary vehicle papers and permission letters to take your vehicle across the border. SA Rands can also be used for payment.
Please contact the border or Tuli Wilderness prior to travel so that we can advise the best route available at the time should the Limpopo or Motloutse Rivers be flowing.
